How do we build multiple tanks on-site?
For projects involving a larger series of tanks at the customer’s location, we use a method that allows us to build the tanks in parallel. This enables us to work efficiently and minimize the overall lead time.
We use a central crane to lift the various tank sections. Around this crane, multiple workstations are set up, each with its own team, ensuring an optimal construction process. The different tank sections are fully automatically plasma-welded using our own welding carousels.
The tanks can be built directly in their final position or initially at a nearby location. In the latter case, they are moved to the tank foundation and lifted into place after completion.
Production
When building a series of tanks on-site, we use our welding carousels and a central crane. Around this crane, multiple workstations are set up, each with its own team, ensuring the construction process runs optimally and in a structured manner.
The workstations include positions for constructing the tank bottom and top. The shell plates are decoiled on-site and then fully automatically plasma-welded using the welding carousels.
Thanks to this method, we can build tanks in parallel, resulting in a short lead time and an efficient construction process. Since we work safely from ground level, this also contributes to higher quality.
Materials
Gpi only uses stainless steel for its tanks. Different types of stainless steel are available, and you can choose the type that best suits your industry and uses. In some cases, a combination of materials may be an option, such as a part-duplex material for the lower section of the hull (where the strength requirement is the greatest), and a cheaper stainless steel, such as 304(L) or 316(L) for the upper section. Our experts would be happy to advise. If you’d like to learn more about the materials, please visit our stainless steel page
Safety and quality
To guarantee your safety and that of our team, we are VCA and VCA Petrochemicals certified, to name but two. We are also well acquainted with the common and relevant standards and regulations. Learn more about our standards and certifications.
